Three Years at Wonderstruck

Three Years at Wonderstruck

A reflection on my journey as the first designer at Wonderstruck, the challenges we've faced, and how we're shaping the future of Web3 design.

The Beginning

When I joined Wonderstruck in 2022, I was stepping into somehow uncharted territory. As the first designer, I had the unique opportunity to establish our design culture from the ground up. The challenge wasn't just about creating beautiful interfaces for already complex products, it was about building a design practice that could scale with our growing team and client base.

Building the Foundation

The first year was a whirlwind of establishing core principles. I spent countless hours crafting a robust component gallery system that could adapt to different Web3 products, although most of our initial exploration was deeply anchored on DeFi vertical and interesting use cases. Setting up efficient workflows for design-to-development handoff became crucial as we grew. We built a comprehensive library of reusable components and established design review processes that would serve us well in the years to come.

Growth and Evolution

Year two brought new challenges and opportunities. We expanded our team with talented designers who shared our vision. The projects grew more complex, particularly in the DeFi and Web3 space. We began exploring how AI could enhance our design process, and developed scalable processes to handle multiple concurrent projects without compromising quality.

Looking Forward

As we enter year three, I'm excited about the possibilities ahead. We're pushing the boundaries of Web3 design, finding new ways to make complex financial products accessible to everyone. Mentoring the next generation of Web3 designers has become a passion of mine, and I'm focused on building tools and systems that will shape the future of digital finance.

Key Learnings

The journey has taught me several valuable lessons. A well-thought-out design system isn't just about consistency, it's the simplicity that allows us to move fast while maintaining quality. In Web3, we're often designing for new user behaviors, which has reinforced the importance of clear, intuitive documentation. Building a strong design culture early on has been instrumental in our growth, and our ability to adapt and evolve our processes has been crucial.

The Future

Looking ahead, I'm focused on expanding our design capabilities into new Web3 verticals. We're developing innovative solutions for AI-powered products and creating more efficient workflows for rapid prototyping. The goal is to build a global design team that can tackle any challenge while maintaining our commitment to quality and innovation.

The journey so far has been incredible, and I'm excited about what the future holds for Wonderstruck and the broader Web3 design community.
